Who writes The Mazatlán Brief?
The Brief is written in Mazatlán, not assembled from other people's websites. Every figure here carries the month it was checked and the source it came from. When we have not verified something ourselves, we say so instead of filling the gap.
The detail
Most of what is published in English about living in Mazatlán falls into two piles. There are travel pages written by people who spent four days here. And there are directories that list whoever pays to be listed.
Neither is much help when you are deciding whether to move money, sign paperwork, or hand someone your medical care.
What we do differently
We publish the date. Every figure says the month we checked it. Rules in Mexico change, and a number without a date is a guess wearing a suit.
We publish the source. You can follow it and check us.
We say when we do not know. The sections that recommend businesses are empty right now, because we are still verifying them. An empty space is more honest than a padded list.
We verify licenses. Mexico's federal registry of professionals is public and free. Where a profession requires a license, we check it before we ever name anyone.
How we pay for it
Local businesses will sponsor categories on this site. When that happens, it will be labeled as sponsorship on the page where it appears — every time, without exception. Sponsorship will never decide what we say about anything, and no amount of money buys a verification.
Corrections
If a figure here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it and note when we did. That is the whole product: numbers you can act on.
